In just one short season Will White shaved 12 seconds off his lap time in the McRae Motorsport Rallysprint Series. It was enough to lift him to third place overall last year and while Will, a self-confessed adrenaline junkie, competes in the Rallysprints for enjoyment rather than results he felt he had his 2003 Mitsubishi Evo VIII going as fast as it was capable. After the first round of the 2013-14 season, where he finished fourth overall, he had the opportunity to buy an Evo IX MR from Steve Jones Racing with a 2.3-litre stroker engine under the bonnet. It was not only a newer car but the increased power lifted him from the 2.0-litre category into the 3.5-litre class, putting him up against the most powerful cars in the event. And in his first outing in his new car the Dardenup businessman shaved an impressive five seconds off his times from the previous outing — enough to lift him to the top of the podium. “It is an absolutely exhilarating car to drive,” Will said. “I have raced in a 700hp GTR and this car is every bit as exciting to drive. There are now three cars with Stroker engines competing in the Rallysprint series which should make for some interesting time comparisons over the final three rounds. The Rallysprint Series is a tarmac rally contested over five rounds between November and March. Round Three will be contested at the Perth Motorplex in Kwinana on Thursday, January 23 with the event starting at 6.00pm. |
